Label or mark the part of the video you performed
Want to mark which part of the video you did? That's what claiming a section is for. With Claim section in the video controls below the video, you can label the portion of a case you performed, and assign each claimed section to the surgeon or resident who performed it — so the record shows who did what.
Overview
The "Claim Your Section" feature allows surgeons and residents to specify the sections of a surgery each individual performed. This enables precise tracking and analysis of each team member's contribution to the procedure.
Benefits
The section markings provide several advantages:
- Efficient Navigation: Claimed sections are displayed on the strip above the seekbar, enabling fast access to specific portions of the surgery.
- Feedback Requests (GME): Facilitates feedback requests focused only on sections performed by the designated surgeon or resident.
- Resident Progress Analytics: Helps monitor the progress of residents by measuring the percentage of the surgery they performed.
- Case and Surgeon Statistics: Enhances the accuracy of case and surgeon analytics, ensuring data is relevant by focusing on the specific sections completed by each individual.
How It Works
-
Navigate to the Case Page Open the case page from your dashboard or case list.
-
Open the claim panel Below the video, click Claim section in the video controls. A Claim section panel opens beside the video, and a range selector appears on the seekbar. The selection starts at the current playback position.
-
Set the start and end of your section Under New claim, type the start and end times, or drag the handles of the range selector on the seekbar. When you let go of a handle, the video plays the selected range so you can check it.
-
Choose who performed it You are selected by default. To credit someone else, select a case participant from the list, or type in Search by name to find another surgeon.
-
Save the claim Click Claim (or press Enter). Claim stays disabled until a person is selected and the end time is after the start time. To close without saving, click Cancel (or press Esc).
-
Repeat as needed Click Claim section again for each additional section. Claimed sections show on the strip above the seekbar.
Who can claim: these steps describe the desktop case page. The Claim section button is available when you have permission to edit the case, the case has a playable video, and the player is not in full screen. In an embedded Epic session, view access is enough, and demo accounts can always claim.
Target Audience
This feature is primarily useful for:
- Residents: For tracking progress and gathering feedback on performed sections.
- Attending surgeons: For attributing each part of the procedure to the right person, so case and surgeon statistics reflect only the sections that individual performed.
- Program and department leads: For following resident progress through the percentage of each procedure they performed.
