The AI Assistant chat does not write, edit, or submit operative reports. Operative reports are created and edited on the case page, in the Op report tab — not in the chat. This article explains where each operative-report task lives and what you can ask the assistant to help with instead.
Where Operative Reports Are Created
You draft an operative report on the case page, not through the chat. Open the relevant case and select the Op report tab to begin. For the complete step-by-step walkthrough — including reviewing suggested statements, generating the draft, and correcting flagged discrepancies — see Operative Report AI Assistant.
What You Can Ask the Assistant Instead
The AI Assistant cannot draft, edit, or submit the report text, but it can help you get to the right case quickly. You can ask it to find the cases whose reports you want to work on — for example, "Show me my robotic prostatectomy cases from last week" — and then open a case and its Op report tab to generate or review the report there.
Use the chat to search, filter, and analyze your cases; use the Op report tab to write and finalize the report itself.
Getting a Report Into Your EHR
The assistant cannot push or export a report into your EHR from the chat. To move a finished report into your EHR:
- Generate and finalize the report in the Op report tab.
- Click Save and copy.
- Paste the report into your EHR — this works with any system your venue uses, including UChart, Epic, or others.
If your organization uses Epic, see Surgery-to-Text: Generating Operative Reports in Epic for the integrated workflow.
Reading an Existing Report's Text
Whether the assistant can read the text of an existing report depends on what surgical data and hospital records it has access to at your venue. For a full explanation of what the assistant can and cannot read — and why a request sometimes comes back empty — see What Data Can the AI Assistant Access?.
