Connect your OR's surgical cameras to theator's cloud platform using a streaming device — no theator hardware unit required.
Before You Begin
- Cloud streaming enabled — If you don't see the Devices tab under System > Implementation, contact theator support to have it enabled.
- Network connection — Your IT department must set up a VPN or direct connection between the hospital network and your theator cloud tenant. See System > Implementation > VPN Integration.
- Account permissions — Venue Admin or IT Admin role required.
- Streaming device access — You'll need to configure the device's streaming destination.
Step 1: Navigate to Devices
Go to System > Implementation > Devices. You'll see a list of all registered streaming devices.
Step 2: Register a New Device
- Click + Register Device.
- Enter a Device Name — a short identifier like
or-1-leftorendo-room-3. Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only. This cannot be changed later. - Assign a room — link to an existing room or create a new one.
- Click Register.
Important: Assigning the correct room ensures recordings are automatically linked to the right surgeon, schedule, and procedure data. If the room is wrong, videos won't be matched to surgical cases. Only skip this for roaming devices that move between rooms.
Step 3: Save Your Streaming URL
A streaming URL with unique credentials is displayed. Save it now — it will not be shown again.
- Copy the URL using the copy icon.
- Store it securely (e.g., a password manager or OR configuration document).
If your device supports multiple protocols, use the tabs to switch between RTSP, RTMP, SRT, or WebRTC. When in doubt, use RTSP.
If you lose this URL, delete the device and register it again to get a new one.
Step 4: Configure Your Streaming Device
- Open your streaming device's configuration interface.
- Paste the URL as the streaming destination.
- Start the stream.
The device should show as Connected (green dot) in the device list within a few minutes.
Managing Devices
The device list shows status at a glance:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green dot | Connected and streaming |
| Red dot | Offline (not currently streaming) |
| Gray dot | Suspended by an admin |
Click a device name to view details, change the room, suspend, or delete it.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
| "Not yet connected" | Verify the URL was entered correctly and the network connection is active. |
| Device shows "Offline" | Check the device is powered on, on the network, and streaming. |
| "Cloud streaming not configured" | Contact theator support — your venue's cloud streaming needs to be enabled. |
| Lost the streaming URL | Delete the device and register again to get a new URL. |
